Awesome Toy Collection – Year End Showhand 2015

Hello world! 2015 has drawn to a close, and I’m back with my Year End Showhand, showcasing items from my awesome toy collection that I had acquired over the course of the year or even earlier. Here we go!

IMG_3345I’m still expanding on my DC Comics Multiverse 3.75″ collection, acquiring figures from the Batman: Arkham series of video games. I’m not sure if all the Batman rogues from the Arkham games are coming out on this scale (many had already been released on the larger 6″ scale). Even though I don’t think I’ll have the time or patience to play the games, I still like the storylines which is why I’m collecting these figures.

[From “Batman: Arkham City”]: Hush
[From “Batman: Arkham Origins”]: The Joker, Deathstroke, Black Mask
[From “Batman: Arkham Knight”]: Harley Quinn, Arkham Knight

P1120899And we finally get a 3.75″ Batman Beyond figure! Apparently the Batman Beyond batsuit is one of the skins available in the game. Interestingly the cardback gives the real name of Batman Beyond as Bruce Wayne, instead of Terry McGinnis as in the animated series and comics. Technically this is true: the futuristic Batman Beyond batsuit was designed and worn by Bruce Wayne, before he was forced to retire due to his age on the first episode of “Batman Beyond”. Also pictured here is the DC Infinite Heroes Batman. Again, for some reason I am still quite happy with the DCIH Batman such that I haven’t gotten around to acquire any of the DC Comics Multiverse Batmans.

P1120915“Injustice: Gods Among Us” figures: Cyborg vs. Harley Quinn, and Catwoman vs. Doomsday.
This was the first appearance of a Harley Quinn figure at 3.75″ scale.

P1120902I have acquired the remaining “Street Fighter II” figures that I was lacking, some of which I found at the local toy flea market, and others I ordered from eBay.
[Loose figures]: Ryu, Ken, Guile, Blanka, M. Bison, Sagat, Zangief, Vega, Balrog, E. Honda
[Mint on card figures]: Chun Li, Dhalsim

Here’s an interesting bit of trivia: In the original Japanese version of SF2, Balrog (the boxer) was named “M. Bison”, Vega (masked guy) was named “Balrog”, and M. Bison (dictator) was named “Vega”. For various reasons, the names of these three characters were switched for the English releases of SF2. As a result sometimes there is confusion among players when discussing about these three characters, which depends on which versions of SF2 they were playing. And I’m not sure whether the same issue of these three still having different names has been carried over into the more recent incarnations of the Street Fighter games.

P1120905Mortal Kombat Klassic figures: Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile and Ermac.
The initial Mortal Kombat games used the method of palette swap of different colours on the same ninja costume to create new characters.

P1120904Scorpion and Sub-Zero from the reboot “Mortal Kombat” (2011).
Scorpion and Sub-Zero are sworn enemies, they belong to rival clans. Apparently Scorpion was killed by Sub-Zero’s elder brother (also named Sub-Zero), and he becomes a hellspawned revenant seeking vengeance. Also, Scorpion blames the Lin Kuei (Sub-Zero’s clan) for the deaths of his family and clan, unaware of the true mastermind behind these events.

P1120916“Knight Rider” vehicles from Hot Wheels! – K.I.T.T., K.A.R.R., and K.I.T.T. Super Pursuit Mode

P1120917Here’s a comparison between two Hot Wheels releases of K.I.T.T. The basic release vehicle (on the right) is slightly smaller.

P1120918aGandalf the Grey from “The Hobbit”

P1120908The amazing Spider-man sure has plenty to handle, beating back the likes of the Lizard, Electro, and the Green Goblin. And he’s getting rebooted directly into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Dang, I was half-hoping to see how Spider-man brings down the Rhino with that manhole cover. Wasn’t Harry Osborn setting up the Sinister Six?

P1120910Following from “Man of Steel”, DC Comics is going ahead with their own cinematic universe (referred to as DCEU, or DC Extended Universe), with upcoming movies featuring Justice League characters. Here’s an ensemble of who’s been announced so far: Aquaman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Cyborg, The Flash, and Shazam (or if you prefer his other name Captain Marvel). Aquaman is a custom figure made by me.

P1120914Some DC Comics heroes are already appearing on TV shows such as “Arrow”, “The Flash”, “Supergirl”, and the upcoming “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”. The TV series continuities are being kept separate from the movies.
From left: The Flash (again), Green Arrow, Supergirl, Firestorm, The Atom, Black Canary, Hawkman

P1120919Another upcoming DCEU movie is “Suicide Squad”, which features an ensemble of supervillians. Here’s a shot of some of them.
From left: Captain Boomerang, The Enchantress, The Joker, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Killer Croc
(I’m using The Enchantress from Marvel Comics as a stand-in for now)

That’s a wrap! Goodbye 2015! And Hello to 2016!

And just this one more:
